JOB SUMMARY

The Project Engineer is the lead engineer for specific projects. Working closely with stakeholders across all facades of a project, this position strives to balance the competing technical requirements to help ensure the design meets the customer needs while supporting production, schedule, and budget constraints.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Work closely with all engineering disciplines to balance the needs, expectations, and limitations of each as they pertain to marine system design for individual projects.
  • Reviews project specific engineering deliverables including all drawings, component specifications, Bills of Materials (BOM's), and change orders for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Conducts or assists with planning of cross functional reviews to insure functionality, manufacturability, and serviceability of all mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Monitor the design and building process, including testing, dock/sea trials, and commissioning of the vessel.
  • Assess and advise regarding engineering resources needed to meet Project Schedule requirements on a weekly basis.
  • Smoothly integrates Class and Flag requirements along with local surveyor and international authority procedures, as required. Tracks and expedites all communications and clarifications.
  • Coordinates and manages the writing and execution of the Commissioning Process prior to yacht delivery.
  • Interact with outside team members and subcontractors to ensure integration and information flow throughout the design process.
  • Act as the project design advocate, holding ultimate responsibility for the overall balance of the design and competing requirements.
  • Act as the design authority through production, helping to ensure requirements compliance (contractual, class, flag, etc.) and validation.
  • Detail oriented and proficient with follow up methods and techniques.
  • Anticipates and foresees problems and acts proactively and focused to make deliberate choices.

POSITION IN ORGANIZATION

This position reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering. This position has no direct reports.

DECISION MAKING

Exercise administrative judgment on a regular and continuous basis and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people and quality of service within the functional area.


COMMUNICATION

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are important as the position must communicate positively and effectively with co-workers at all levels of the organization, contracted engineering partners, suppliers, and vendors.


EDUCATION

A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required. Equivalent experience and/or training may be considered.


EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a marine engineering design and construction environment is preferred, with project engineering experience.
  • Clear understanding of the multidisciplinary nature of ship design and construction, and experience dealing with the competing nature of design requirements.
  • Experience in motor yacht design requirements, shipyard new construction projects in aluminum or steel, and repair/refit projects.
  • Desired software experience includes 2D and 3D CAD, full MS Office suite, Rhino, and other engineering design/analysis software beneficial.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Generally working in an office environment and at a desk with occasional light lifting required. Frequent visits to both the joiner facility and the shipyard are also required along with the ability to ascend/descend staircases while observing designs onboard projects.
