JOB SUMMARY

As a representative of the engineering department located in the shipyard, this position provides a direct link between engineering and production. This role works to identify expedient engineering solutions to production concerns, as well as giving direct feedback to engineering from production to improve product development, producibility, and ensure the Burger standard of quality and design are engrained in the designs throughout the entire engineering process.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Works closely with all production departments at all levels to address engineering issues during the build process, whether it be through a direct solution or working with engineering counterparts.
  • Review structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings and assist production with troubleshooting installation of equipment.
  • Feeds information back into engineering from the production process to improve overall engineering and engineering methods and assist in focusing on production needs.
  • Provides feedback to engineering regarding requests from production and insight into production scheduling and tasking to better enable resource management and planning within the engineering department.
  • Assist production in identifying improvements in production processes, facilities, equipment, etc.
  • Excellent ability to work in a “team” environment and share knowledge of discipline specific work in both a vertical (up and down the org chart) and horizontal (across disciplines and departments) orientation.
  • Ability to make well-formed, rational decisions and demonstrate problem-solving skills within organizational policies and procedures.

POSITION IN ORGANIZATION

This position reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering. This position has no direct reports.

Possess the ability to communicate verbally and in writing positively and effectively with employees, co-workers, suppliers, and vendors. Demonstrate an all-pervasive positive attitude.


EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, maritime sciences, or related field is preferred.


EXPERIENCE

Shipyard new construction, repair, and refit experience preferred with ship design and construction, particularly in cross functional roles preferred.

Working knowledge of the following preferred:

  • All common MS Office applications, with emphasis on spreadsheet analysis and graphing
  • Scheduling software, such as SmartSheet, MS Project, or similar
  • 3D modelling and 2D CAD systems, preferably with some experience in Rhino and AutoCAD
  • Earned Value Management
  • LEAN manufacturing theory
  • ERP systems, such as Infor or similar

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time while operating a computer with occasional light lifting. Position also required regular visits to the Shipyard with climbing of stairs, ladders, and inspection of enclosed spaces.
