Job Summary

The Director of Engineering will lead and manage the Engineering team and coordinate all activities to assure department success. This involves reviewing the needs of Burger’s production team to assure Engineering is delivering the optimal work product for overall organizational success. He or she has responsibility for determining what output is best obtained by contracting with outside Engineering firms, and what work is most efficiently produced with our in-house team. The Director of Engineering is also very involved in other organizational functions including the quoting and bidding process, vetting mechanical and electrical systems and suppliers, creating BoM’s, the design process and more.

Essential Job Functions

  • Attend project status meetings - Daily boat meetings, weekly Engineering meetings/various tasks/responses to issues complete assigned tasks and delegate others with due dates
  • Subcontract Engineering coordination – Review status, discuss priorities, request and review proposals, initiate PO’s, negotiate contracts
  • Capacity planning/assessment and engineering completion status – Review drawing release status, EAC’s, project manning by discipline
  • Procedures and standards creation and updates –Create new procedures and standards to streamline workflow

Decision Making

Weekly engineering priorities/assignments to support production schedule, outsourcing based on capacity requirements, provide technical input to proposal process, technical advisory committee input, personnel actions – promotions/discipline/hiring/termination.

Education

BS Technical Degree with several years experience managing/leading technical organizations involved in the development of large, highly engineered, complex projects.

Experience

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Fluent with MS Office
  • CAD experience
  • Budgeting, scheduling, and planning skills
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Technical problem solving
  • Concise oral/written skills
  • Marine industry strongly preferred
