JOB SUMMARY

The Designer is responsible for providing support for cross-discipline issues and assisting as needed with detailed Engineering Drawings. The Designer also specifies various equipment and materials as needed. Tasks may include work in each of the five major Disciplines within the Engineering Department including:

  • Interiors
  • Outfitting
  • Naval Architecture / Structures
  • Marine / Mechanical
  • Electrical

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Create working drawings.
  • Amend drawings to incorporate changes and corrections.
  • Work with vendors, product catalogues and supplier websites for product specifications for hardware, appliances, electronics, purchased woodwork, mechanical equipment, marine outfitting, etc.
  • Investigate new design concepts by researching components or systems and evaluating applications.
  • Specify equipment in accordance with contractual and engineering requirements. Enter appropriate equipment onto the Bill of Materials.
  • Establish standard designs for discipline specific components.
  • Other related functions and tasks as assigned.

DECISION MAKING

Exercise administrative judgment on a regular and continuous basis and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences and results having an impact on people and quality of service within the functional area.

COMMUNICATION

Strong communication skills - both verbal and written communication – are important as the Designer must communicate positively and effectively with co-workers at all levels of the organization, contracted engineering and design partners, suppliers, and vendors.


EDUCATION

A degree in related engineering field or equivalent experience is preferred.


EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in related field.
  • Experience in design requirements of Motor Yachts in the 75’-180’ range a plus.
  • Shipyard new construction. Repair and refit experience is a plus.
  • Must be computer literate and know basic office software.
  • 2D and 3D CAD experience
  • Structural and structural outfitting detailing, and aluminum structural experience is desired.
  • Knowledge of marine mechanical systems is preferred.
  • Interior design and joiner work, or electrical detailing experience is also valuable.
  • Primary software design tool knowledge: Rhino, AutoDesk Products (AutoCAD).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time while operating a computer with occasional light lifting. Frequent visits to both the Joiner facility and the shipyard are also required along with the ability ascend/descend staircases while observing designs onboard projects.
